Jun 28, 2021 Hip, Hip, Hooray: The Birth of Daimler-Benz AG
Bring out the cake because it’s our 95th birthday! On June 28, 1926, representatives of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie, the two oldest automobile manufacturers in the world, signed the official agreement to form Daimler-Benz AG (now Daimler AG).
The company’s original name paid homage to founders Karl Benz and Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler. After Daimler’s passing, though, Emil Jellinek filled the role of chief engineer and started naming the cars after his daughter, Mercedes. That decision would lead to Mercedes-Benz becoming the face of one of the most valuable luxury car brands in the world.
