Jan 27, 2022 Mercedes-AMG Fields 10 Entries in Rolex 24 at Daytona Race Weekend
Mercedes-AMG races into Daytona International Speedway this weekend with 10 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams competing across three classes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Mercedes-AMG has a record six entries in prestigious and historic Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Mercedes-AMG GT3 teams will lead the GTD field after capturing four of the top six spots in class during the Jan. 23 Roar Before the 24-qualifying race.
The No. 57 Winward Racing team — defending champions of the Rolex 24 — will look to retain their spot atop the podium after winning Sunday’s Roar Before the 24 in the GTD class. The No. 75 Sun Energy 1 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will start fourth in GTD ahead of the No. 32 Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports entry in fifth and the Alegra Motorsports No. 28 Mercedes-AMG GT3 staring sixth.
Two Mercedes-AMG GT3s from Proton USA will compete in the new GTD Pro class. The No. 15 team will start third Saturday after charging back from last place in the Roar Before the 24. The No. 97 Mercedes-AMG GT3 from Proton USA will start fifth in the 24-hour endurance race.
Mercedes-AMG will also be well represented in the four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race from Daytona, which begins at 1:35 p.m. EST Friday. Murillo Racing will field three Mercedes-AMG GT4s alongside the No. 11 entry from Capstone Motorsports in the top-tier Grand Sport class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge series.
