Feb 02, 2022 136 Years in the Making: Daimler AG Becomes Mercedes-Benz Group AG
On January 28, 1886, Carl Benz applied for a patent for his motor car. On January 29, 2022, Daimler AG officially became Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
“The renaming to Mercedes-Benz Group AG underlines our renewed strategic focus,” said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. “In doing so, we want to make clear where we see the core of our company – building the most desirable cars in the world.”
This rebrand continues Project Focus, the separation of cars and trucks. With the renaming of Daimler, the company completes its historic realignment that began last year and has been approved by the shareholders with an overwhelming majority. The new Mercedes-Benz Group will fully concentrate on its luxury passenger car brands and vans while Daimler Mobility AG continues with Daimler Truck. Besides a name change wherever “Daimler” is written, there will be no other impact to MBUSA.
Parallel to the renaming of Daimler AG, Daimler Mobility AG is also adapting its brand: Under the name Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, the company offers mobility services for passenger cars and vans in the areas of financing, leasing and insurance. In addition, the finance and mobility division enable Mercedes-Benz customers to use their vehicles flexibly via rental and subscription models, fleet management and digital services for charging and payment.
To honor the beginning of this new era, a virtual Mercedes-Benz Day One Event took place earlier this week. Watch the recording of the event here and visit the Social Intranet to learn more about the rebrand.
