Feb 16, 2022 Pets Get Second Chance with Paint-A-Shelter Pet Gallery
After nearly two years in the making, these pooches posed for their portrait at Merritt Memorial School in Cresskill, N.J. with the help of Mercedes-Benz. Last month, students raised $1,200 for Ramapo-Bergen Animal Rescue, Inc. (RBARI), a local no-kill animal shelter, by tapping into their creative side to paint portraits of adoptable pets in need of finding their forever homes.
Back in 2018, we donated art supplies to provide free art classes at the school to raise money for RBARI. This project was intended to be completed in March of 2020 but was postponed due the pandemic. In January, the students were finally able to show off their canvases of adoptable animals.
“I attended the event in New Jersey, and it was just lovely,” said Susan Aviles, Premier Vehicle Support at Customer Assistance Center. “The support that night and turnout was incredible. It was such a great event – any event involving animals and kids are always the best!”
Through the Paint-A-Shelter Pet program and gallery, fourth and fifth graders were able to learn the importance of practicing compassion while advocating for animals through art. Displayed at One River School’s gallery, their work increased exposure for homeless pets at RBARI who have nowhere else to go and raised awareness and donations for animals in need of medical attention, care, foster homes and more.
“We at RBARI were blown away by the paintings the student made, and by the generosity of both Mercedes-Benz and the Merritt Memorial School,” said Megan Brinster, executive director of Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. “Without community partners like Mercedes and Merritt Memorial, we couldn’t carry out our work. This includes taking on urgent medical cases, providing second chances for local animals in desperate situations and providing community-based programs such as low cost spay/neuter surgeries.”
Through your help and support, the students and their parents raised $1,200 for Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge. Thanks to everyone who made this special event happen!
